Americans, its body is not perfectly built as not to encounter defects and other
problems. Their several complaints about Intrepid's parts that becomes defective.
There is a recently filed lawsuit saying that Intrepids steering is defectively
designed and it delivers dangerously high load forces on inner tie rod ends when
steering it turned. Another complaint is that the design of the steering was not
compatible with the design of other systems in the vehicle, including the drivetrain,
and the front suspension system.
It may therefore lead or cause sudden premature and unnecessary failure of its
various assemblies and components. Almost 1,450 reported of their steering control
problems which include complete loss of steering control with the 1993-1996 models.
The steering system was designed in a way that it becomes difficult to undertake
and properly carry out inspections, repairs and maintenance on different assemblies
and components of the system, which includes inspections.
Another reported problem involves the A/C system of the Intrepid. The report
stated that when the A/C switch is pushed on, the air blowing is not cold. The
compressor and condenser have been inspected to see if there are debris, leaks,
and cracks but none was found. The said problem has been addressed by replacing
the leaking thermostat housing, the leaking power steering coolant lines, both
front struts due to failure and replacing oil pan gasket.
These components were all replaced through factory warranty. Moreover, Chrysler's
2.7-liter DOHC used in Intrepid encountered defect due to what some engine experts
have declared that the internal oil passages are too narrow for engine oil to
circulate correctly causing the oil to ?cook? inside the engine. Also, the engine
encountered rod bearing failure.
