When the original turbo was designed, the US Department of Transportation had
pretty poor lighting standards. The stock headlight reflectors are designed incompetently,
the bulbs are not very powerful and the headlight glass scatters the light widely.
People did almost everything to improve the poor light output by adding bulb wattage
but this only gives more light into the badly designed reflectors/lenses which
further scatters the light upward, side ways and almost every direction except
down the road in front of the vehicle.
Increased bulb wattage is not advisable because it often cause burned headlight
bulb connectors, or melted wiring harnesses, or even blown headlight switches.
To address the problem, some owners and automakers decided to use headlights that
are made in Europe, manufactured by either Bosch or Hella. The European lamp assemblies
or the eurolamps are deeper, with more capable reflexors, better bulbs and lenses
which are made with a sharp cutoff to direct the light down the road and on the
shoulder. With Eurolights, Dodge Intrepid can avoid headlight defects and headlight
assembly problems. It is also more competent than US made headlights.
